Computers, Technology and how systems work have always been one of Cameron's passion. Starting his career in 2014, as a graduate systems engineer, Cameron has risen through the ranks to become Lancom's Technical Team Leader, responsible for scoping, and delivering complex projects.
We interviewed Cameron to find out his highlights building a career in Technology, and his recommendations for those getting started.
Cameron shares that his biggest highlight working for Lancom was being surrounded by a team who were never too busy to help out, discuss a solution, or teach him about something new.
"This not only helped to accelerate my learning immensely and set me up for where I am now."
With an ability to show technical skills, Cameron has paid strong attention to his continuous learning path, completing a number of technical exams such as AWS Solutions Architect, AWS SysOps Administrator, Citrix Virtualisation Associate, Microsoft Cloud Platform and Infrastructure, among others.
The ability to quickly understand and apply technology concepts resulted in a Technical Leader role, where Cameron gets to spend most of his time assisting customers with project scoping, planning and delivery. He also gets to share his knowledge, by mentoring Lancom's engineering team on the latest technologies which he is playing with.
When asked about his recommendations for those starting a career in tech Cameron quotes:
"My recommendation for people looking to start a career in tech would be to immerse yourself in it both before and after you get into the industry. Learn as much as you can to get a better knowledge of how systems work together. Once you’ve laid that foundation of knowledge it becomes easier to learn and understand new technologies products and services that you may come across."
But it is not all about technology in Cameron's life, a convicted lover of doughnuts, he enjoys crashing his FPV drone, collecting watches and sneakers that he is not too scared to wear :)
