Five awesome Gmail tips you might not know about

Written by  Mysti

Even if you don’t use Gmail as your primary email account, it can still be worthwhile learning some extra tricks to make using it just that little bit easier. Here are a few tips, tricks, and additional features that I like using in Gmail.

  1. Drag and drop labels – Did you know that a really quick way to add a label to an email is to just drag and drop that label from the sidebar on to the email? This is much faster than selecting an email, going to labels, selecting a label, and then clicking apply.

  2. StarsExtra stars – Do you like to star important emails? If you have emails that are different kinds of important or require different actions, you can use different types of stars to signify this. To turn this feature on go to Settings and look under the General tab for the Star settings.

  3. Personal indicators – Want a way to quickly see which emails are personal and which are those that have been sent to a mailing list? Turning on the personal indicator feature displays a double arrow next to emails sent specifically (and only) to you. To turn this feature on go to your Settings, the General tab, and then scroll down till you find Personal level indicators.

  4. unreadmessagesUnread message icon – Wish you could always see how many unread messages you had? With the unread message icon you will be able to see this number on Gmail’s favicon, which shows up on your browser tab even when you are not currently looking at your inbox. This feature is available under Settings, under the Labs tab.

  5. Undo send –Undo send is another great feature available under the Labs section. With this feature turned on you will be able to stop a message from being sent for up to 5 seconds after you have clicked the send button. This feature is great for when you realise a second after you send an email that it was to the wrong person.
